Dry Skin Brushing
If this is your first encounter with the Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing – prepare to be amazed, blown away, and left wondering why the heck you have never tried this before! We posted our favorite little Mini Juice Detox last week, and THIS is our other secret detox weapon. You guys, dry skin brushing honestly works like a charm.
Skin Brushing Benefits
Now there are all kinds of scientific explanations you can research about skin brushing, but we would rather not bore you to death so we are going to stick with the basic facts you really need to know. A dry skin brush is a little bit like a shampoo brush for the rest of your body. Ultimately, dry skin brushing is a natural and proven technique for improving circulation in your body and the overall appearance of your skin. We also love that fact it reduces cellulite and helps firm up sagging skin.
Here is a list of the other benefits for those of you A-type people <like me!> who prefer things to be nice and neat and easy to read:
· Helps brighten your skin by exfoliating dead skin cells
· Helps improve circulation and blood flow through the body
· Provides a gentle internal massage which promotes your body to eliminate toxins
· Helps eliminate clogged pores so your skin is able to breathe and absorb more nutrients
Skin Brushing Options
One of the other great things about skin brushing is that it is super simple and inexpensive to do. I first learned about it on a visit to the day spa, but the prices are a bit lofty to do on a regular basis. So all you need to get started at home is a natural bristle brush, which looks like a wooden hair brush with a long handle. Just make sure you do not buy a synthetic brush because synthetic fibers can cause tiny scratches on the surface of your skin – ouch!
Once you have a brush, you should be ready to get started! You only need to do this once a day, and it works best first thing in the morning if at all possible. Also keep in mind, this is a natural process not a one-time thing. That means is best to do this consistently, at least 3 or 4 times a week, to see the greatest benefits.
Skin Brushing Steps
So first things first – always dry brush your skin when you are completely nude. Start at your feet and work upwards towards your heart with long strokes. The key point being upward towards your heart. When you brush away from your heart, it puts extra pressure on the valves and vessels within the veins. And that would pretty much just defeat the whole purpose.
Other key points – 1.) brush your tummy in a circular motion 2.) brush upwards on your back and 3.) since you always want to brush towards your heart, you should use downward strokes from the neck. Of course you should be gentle and brush lightly over more delicate areas. And you can apply a little more pressure where the skin is thicker. Just listen to your body and what feels ok for you. Makes sense right?
Finally, hop in the shower immediately after you are done to rinse off the dead skin. Then just follow up with a natural moisturizing oil. And there you have it friends. The secret detox weapon is out.
We are so excited for you guys to try this! Enjoy! =)
