A few weeks ago, some random person in the weight room asked what workout program I was following. Without hesitation, my reply was eh I just do whatever I want really and went on my way. Afterwards I felt kind of bad. Like the reply had come across kind of rude. Maybe even a little conceited (eek – totally not me!)
Especially because I honestly meant it in the most genuine way. The thing is, before becoming a momma, it was engrained in my brain that in order to be successful you had to be following a workout program. A plan. A routine. Just think how often you see things about the perfect 6 (or 10 or 12) week workout plan.
Once I became a full-time working mom, the whole concept of both plans + routines bolted right out the window. Gone! I strongly resisted this change for months <and months and months> on end before realizing that routine as a mother is just not possible. Not in this lifetime. Not ever.
And now I love it. At least fitness wise – it feels like freedom! Somedays, I like to go to the gym and lift heavy things. Somedays I like to take my kiddo for a quick jog around the block in the stroller. Once a month or so, I have been stopping by the nearest Crossfit gym for a challenge. Every now and then, I even like to work up a good sweat at group cycling class.
The whole point is: there is no such thing as a perfect workout plan. Variety and progress are the keys to success! And of course remembering that anything is always better than nothing.
Besides just feeling free, I also feel like I am stronger than ever and ready for all things! And this may sound crazy, but working out is far more enjoyable when you just go with the flow and do what you want. Imagine that!
Have a great days friends! =)
