One of my ‘Facebook friends’ recently posted an open ended question to other mothers that went something along the lines of when the heck do you people find time to exercise? She honestly had about a zillion different responses in less than 7 minutes flat and I got quite a kick out of reading each and every single response.
Some of the moms said they get up at 4AM and drink a lot of coffee so they can exercise before work. Some moms said they try to do 10 minutes here and there if and when they can fit it in. Some moms said they exercise while their kids nap. Lots of moms said their workouts would be non-existent until their kiddos were older.
The whole thing got me thinking how much things change once you become a mother. Because besides just being a cardio queen, I also used to be one of those early bird people who had a very specific morning workout routine: wake up early – drink some water – do an hour of cardio and/or light weights – shower – breakfast – head to work.
Now the word routine is not even part of my vocabulary. And although it really frustrated the crap out of me for a while, I think being forced to be adaptable was actually the best possible thing that could have happened to my body!
Right now, my workouts either happen in our garage, at the gym, or at the park. It really just depends on the weather and whatever is convenient each particular day. Sometimes I get to workout at 5pm when my husband gets off work. Sometimes it has to wait until 7:30pm when my Little Man goes to bed. On the weekends, I usually workout mid-morning but sometimes it has to wait until the afternoon.
The point is if you are looking for the easy way, or waiting to magically find time – it is never going to happen! Especially if you are a busy mom (who is probably spending too much time on FaceBook). The good news is that everything is possible if you want it to be. Make this a priority. A non-negotiable. If you WANT this bad enough, it should be easy to make time for it.
And speaking of – it is workout time now. Have a great weekend! =)

I workout at the gym. I wouldn’t want to get in the way of the kids at the playground 🙂

I think this is a great post. Just find the time- whenever it works for you- and get out and do it! Exercising always makes you feel better (in my opinion!)

I’m off my routine right now, sigh, but normally I work out IMMEDIATELY upon waking up in the morning so that it’s done!

I work out just whenever I have time too, schedules just get too hectic sometimes, so it’s hard for me to get into a regular routine. 🙂

I can’t stand going to a gym – so I’d pretty much do the same thing you’d do and run around with my kids (when I have them lol). Right now I keep fit by doing yoga, running outside and rock climbing.

That looks like a great workout. I would love to workout like that at the park.
