Nutella Dip
I was recently planning a casual get together for some friends in our neighborhood. There is a group of us who all have kids around the same age and I thought it would be fun to have everyone over one afternoon to play games, chat and just have fun! Since we were planning to get together in the afternoon after lunch but before diner, I was a little perplexed at what to serve for food.
There would be a good number of kid around and also adults so I needed something to please everyone. I also wanted to serve a healthy snack since giving kids junk food or sugar right before dinner is never a good idea (they won’t eat anything come dinner time!). Yet I still wanted the snack to be absolutely delicious, something no one could resist (besides, if I am going through the trouble of making a snack, I want it to be eaten!).
Making a fruit platter sounded like a good idea but it still didn’t have that wow factor I was looking for. Then I thought about making a dip to go with the fruit- perfect! Kids love any kind of dip and it would add that little something special I was aiming for to impress the adults. Then, I thought of something even better- Nutella dip.
What is in Nutella?
If you are unfamiliar with nutella, you need to jump on the bandwagon and give it a try. Nutella is essentially ground hazelnuts and chocolate combined into an amazing, spreadable paste. It has become super popular in the past few years and we can see why- it is irresistible. Check out this video to see how it is made so you can really grasp the greatness and simplicity of this ingredient.
Nutella is also very versatile and you can mix it into almost anything. It has a similar texture to peanut butter but is a little thicker. Nutella melts well and sometimes it is a little easier to blend into your recipes if you soften it in the microwave a little bit. There are also many store brands of nutella that are just as good as the real thing for a little bit less money.
2 Ingredient Nutella Dip
Now that you are pretty familiar with nutella and its pure amazing-ness, time to go over the recipe. When I say recipe, I am using that term lightly as this “recipe” is really only two ingredients. You already know that nutella is one of them so what is the other? Greek Yogurt!
I said I wanted to keep this recipe simple and that is exactly what I did. Besides, I had a whole house to clean before my guests came over and a bunch of fruit to slice- I didn’t have time for more than a two ingredient dip!
Nutella Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip
Greek yogurt is the base of many fruit dips and there are plenty of reasons why. The first is that it is tasty. Greek yogurt has a delicious zing to it which pairs very well with fruit. It is also nice and creamy which compliments the crunch of the fruit. Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt so it holds up well when fruit is dipped in. Dip an apple slice into a Greek yogurt dip and the yogurt will not drip off but rather stay firm on top of the fruit- exactly the texture a yogurt should be!
Greek yogurt is also very healthy and contains lots of beneficial vitamins, minerals and other components that you would want to be feeding your kids and friends. Serving a healthy snack to kids will always make you a hero in the eyes of their parents! Greek yogurt has protein too, something that is lacking in many kids diets. The probiotics in Greek yogurt, the large amount of calcium and the high levels of B12 are also points that are worth noting. All in all, Greek yogurt is a total win so it absolutely fit with my idea for a healthy and tasty snack for my get together.
Fruit to go with Dip
So I had all my ingredients in place for my tasty snack to serve at my party, now to put it all together. I mixed my ingredients in a large bowl until they were nice and smooth. I scooped the mix into a serving dish and placed it in the center of a big tray. Then I piled on the fruit. I opted for what looked good in my grocery store but all of these fruits would work perfectly:
- Strawberries
- Cantalope
- Honeydew
- Bananas
- Orange slices
- Raspberries
- Pears
- Pineapple
I also though that scooping this dip up with crackers would be good too- I mean, nutella goes with everything, right?!
Once I had my snack platter made, I was super excited about the results. It was so quick to make and it looked beautiful, like I spent all day making it! All the colors of the fruit were eye catching and the Nutella fruit dip in the center looked so chocolaty and rich however I knew it was healthy! Seriously the perfect snack for all my guests from the littlest one year old to all the adults in the group.
Needless to say, this fruit platter was gobbled up shortly after everyone arrived. The dip bowl was also licked clean (like, literally, someone licked the bowl clean…I’ll pretend it was one of the kids and not an adult…). Luckily I had made more dip and was able to put out another round of the snack.
Easy Nutella Dip
Since the first day I made this easy nutella dip, I have been asked for the recipe many, many times. People are always amazed that it is only two ingredients and that it is actually healthy! I have re created this dip hundreds of times for parties and just for myself. Now it is your turn to give it a try. All that Nutella goodness and the creamy yogurt….you’re going to be hooked!
Hope you Enjoy! =)
