1. Jelly Palm Fruit
The jelly palm fruit is first up on our list of fruits that start with J. It is a small, orange fruit that grows on the Pindo palm tree.
Jelly palm is common throughout South America. They are sweet, a little tart, and taste like pineapple and apricot mix. The sour taste and juicy flesh is quite a delicious combination.
The little edible palm fruit is often used to make jams and jellies. This is actually why the fruit is called jelly palm. It has so much pectin that it is perfect for making jelly. Pectin helps jellies and jams set and thicken. They also act as a natural preservative which is essential in jam making.
Jelly palm fruit is not very popular around the world, but we foresee it becoming more and more common in the upcoming years! Jelly palm fruit is just too good!
Look for jelly palm jam on the grocery store shelf near you. If you’re in central America, you will likely find it!
2. Jujube Fruit
The jujube fruit is small and sweet. They are often eaten dried. When dried, they have a cherry texture and flavor like dates. The jujube fruit has two pits in the center which should be removed.
Jujube fruit is also known as Chinese dates. Chinese tradition says the jujube can cure insomnia. The little fruit has antioxidant phytochemicals which have sedative qualities. A Chinese date before bed is actually quite common and we can see why!

The oval shape fruit is about the size of an apple. It has a golden orange skin that is smooth and shiny. The skin and flesh of the persimmon are edible.

Jaboticaba fruit is also known as a tree grape. The edible fruit does have a dark purple skin that makes it look very similar to a grape. The tree is also referred to as the Brazilian grape tree.
The grape-sized fruit has a fruity sweet flavor that is slightly floral and acidic. Jaboticaba fruit is quite healthy and loaded with calcium, iron, and potassium.

7. Jatoba Fruit
The jatoba fruit has been nicknamed the stinking toe fruit. No wonder there because its long, oblong shape does look similar to a human toe!
Jatboa fruit is also known as the Brazilian cherry. However, it is very different than any cherry you may have tasted before! The fruity, delicious taste of a traditional cherry is just not there when you bite into a Brazilian cherry.
The tan pulp inside the dark brown shell of the jatoba fruit is very dry. It almost has the consistency of flour.
The green skin opens to reveal a pulp that tastes similar to dried milk, parmesan cheese, and strong and aromatic herb. Just another reason why it may be called stinking toe fruit! You might want to skip this fruit that starts with j when you’re planning your next fruit platter. Other citrus fruits and summer fruit options may be better!
While the jatoba is edible, it is not a very popular fruit. The large jatoba trees that grow in the Amazon are most often used for timber rather than the berry fruit on the tree.
8. Jostaberry
Next up on our list of fruits that start with J is the jostaberry. The berries are grown on tall bushes in little clusters, mostly in North America. The shrubs can grow for decades, producing more and more berries every year.
Jostaberry fruit tastes like a black currant mixed with a gooseberry. They are sweet and pleasantly juicy. Jostaberry fruit is eaten raw, made into jam, or used in pie filling.
Jostaberry fruit is also a favorite of birds and wild life. If you plan to start your own jostaberry farm, you will need to protect your bushes from predators. Everyone wants to eat this delicious, versatile fruit!
9. Jambul Fruit

13. Jazz Apple
The Jazz apple is a specific type of apple that has been patented and only grown by approved growers in the USA. It is a cross between a royal gala apple and a braeburn apple.
Jazz apples have a sweet and tangy flavor. They have a fantastic crunch and lots of juice which makes them a delicious fruit. They are similar to java apple which are also fruits beginning with j.
Jazz apples are best for snacking and baking. The firm flesh does not get soft when cooked. You are better off using a different j fruit, like the java apple or Japanese pear if you want to bake a pie!
14. Johannisberre
Johannisberre is the German word for currant fruit which can come in red or black. Johannisberre is used to make jellies and is added to other foods. They are not usually eaten raw.
Currants have a lemon-like flavor. They are quite tart but full of nutrients like vitamin C and have many health benefits. It is those potential health benefits that keep people coming back for more!

The ackee is also known as Jamaican fruit as it is the countries national fruit. The fruit looks similar to scrambled eggs. Jamaican fruit can even be cooked like scrambled eggs.
Ackee fruit grows on tall evergreen trees. They are in the same family as lychee and actually native to West Africa, the Caribbean and southern Florida.
The ackee is buttery and nutty. It does contain a poison that can be quite dangerous if eaten before the fruit is ripened. This may make it undesirable to some but you just need to learn when the best time is to eat this tasty fruit. You will not be disappointed!
