1. Jelly Palm Fruit
The jelly palm fruit is first up on our list of fruits that start with J. It is a small, orange fruit that grows on the Pindo palm tree.
Jelly palm is common throughout South America. They are sweet, a little tart, and taste like pineapple and apricot mix.
2. Jujube Fruit
The jujube fruit is small and sweet. They are often eaten dried. When dried, they have a cherry texture and flavor like dates. The jujube fruit has two pits in the center which should be removed.
Chinese tradition says the jujube can cure insomnia. The little fruit has antioxidant phytochemicals which have sedative qualities. Eat one of these tasty letter J fruits, and you will instantly relax!
3. Japanese Persimmon Fruit
The Japanese persimmon is native to Japan, China, and the Himalayas. It has long been cultivated along the Mediterranean coast, but Japanese persimmon trees can now be found along California’s shores.
A nice, ripe Japanese persimmon fruit tastes creamy and rich. It has a delicious honey-like flavor and a texture similar to a peach. The fruits also start with the letter J!
4. Junglesop Fruit
Junglesop fruit is native to Central America. It has a tough, leathery skin that reveals a soft, yellow, edible flesh.

The grape-sized fruit has a fruity sweet flavor that is slightly floral and acidic. Jaboticaba is quite healthy and loaded with calcium, iron, and potassium.
7. Jatoba Fruit
The jatoba fruit has been nicknamed the stinking toe fruit. No wonder there because its long, oblong shape does look similar to a human toe! It is also known as the Brazilian cherry.
The tan pulp inside the dark brown shell of the jatoba is very dry. It almost has the consistency of flour.
The pulp tastes similar to dried milk, parmesan cheese, and herbs. While the jatoba is edible, it is not a very popular fruit. The large jatoba trees that grow in the Amazon are most often used for timber.
Next up on our list of fruits that start with J is the jostaberry. The berries are grown on tall bushes in little clusters, mostly in North America.
Jostaberry fruit tastes like a black currant mixed with a gooseberry. They are sweet and pleasantly juicy. Jostaberry fruit is eaten raw, made into jam, or used in pie filling.
9. Jambul Fruit
The next tasty fruit on our list of fruits beginning with J is the jambul fruit. Be careful when you eat this sweet fruit, as it will turn your tongue purple!
Jambul is also called Jamun fruit. Even more fruits that begin with the letter J! It grows on an evergreen tropical tree native to India, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
The fruit has a subtle acidic spiciness. They have many medicinal purposes and are even used to control diabetes. Wine and vinegar can also be made from the fruit.
10. Japanese Plum
Japanese plums are quite bitter when eaten before they are perfectly ripe. The smooth-skinned fruit is firm and a dusky yellow color when fully ripe.
Japanese plum can be likened to a combination of peach and apricot. They contain a lot of pectins which makes them great for making jam.
Jackfruit is a large, exotic fruit grown in the tropical regions of the world. It has a rough, spikey exterior and meaty flesh similar to the texture of chicken.
Ripe jackfruit has a sweet taste similar to apples and bananas. Jackfruit is very dense and fibrous. It is often used as a vegetarian meat replacement. Jackfruit makes fantastic pulled “pork”!
Jackfruit is illegal to import into the U.S. If jackfruit is not ripened correctly, it contains toxins that can dangerously drop your blood sugar and be potentially fatal.
12. Juicy Tomatoes or Jitomate
Did you know that a tomato is actually a fruit? They are often thought of as vegetables. They have a savory flavor that does taste more like vegetables.
Juicy tomato must be included on our list of letter J fruits! They are also known in southern Mexico as jitomate- just another way this fruit starts with the letter J!
You can slice a tomato and enjoy it raw. A tomato can be cooked into a sauce. It is used in so many recipes and is a fantastic fruit that starts with the letter J.
13. Jazz Apple
The Jazz apple is a specific type of apple that has been patented and only grown by approved growers in the USA. Jazz apples are best for snacking and baking. The firm flesh does not get soft when cooked.
Johannisberre is the German word for currant fruit which can come in red or black. Johannisberre is used to make jellies and is added to other foods. They are not usually eaten raw.
Currants have a lemon-like flavor. They are quite tart but full of nutrients like vitamin C and have many health benefits. The small fruit is especially delicious when baked with lots of sugar or other sweet fruits.
15. Jamaican Fruit
The ackee is also known as Jamaican fruit as it is the countries national fruit. The fruit looks similar to scrambled eggs. Jamaican fruit can even be cooked like scrambled eggs.
The ackee is buttery and nutty. It does contain a poison that can be quite dangerous if eaten before the fruit is ripened.
