Howdy Friends! I hope you are having a wonderful start to this summer season. But we are not going to bore you with small talk about the weather today. Instead, we are going to talk about veggies. Because in a perfect world, kids (and adults!) would be begging to eat more veggies.
Just imagine! People willingly choosing carrot sticks over potato chips and drinking green smoothies instead of milkshakes. Yes, we know that dream seems pretty much impossible when you have picky eaters in your household. But it still shouldn’t stop you from trying! So here are a few simple suggestions when it comes to picky eaters:
1. Get Excited! – How many times did your mom say “you can’t have any cookies until you eat your green beans!” That immediately triggers your brain to associate cookies as a treat and green beans as torture. (yes – I said torture!) Instead, try putting dinner on the table with a smile as you say “I am super excited about this new stir fry dish I made tonight! You guys are going to love all of the extra flavor!!!”
2. Keep it Secret! – While it’s great that you are super excited about your healthier cooking habits, keep the focus on the flavor, not the fact that you added tons of hidden veggies to the recipe. Your husband and/or kids just need to know that you made them a super delicious meal that you are excited to serve them, not that you are tricking them into eating more veggies!
3. It takes Time! – You can’t expect picky eaters to change taste overnight. Slowly start making healthier swaps and adding more mineral dense veggies to your regular meals and before you know it, you and your family will be eating better without a fight!
Here are 4 super delicious recipes we love that can get you and your family on the road to healthier eating:
