How to Make a Coconut Smoothie
Make a tasty coconut smoothie is one of the easiest meals you can make. A large blender and a few simple ingredients is all you need! Here is how we make this delicious drink in just a few minutes.
- Place the frozen bananas, ice, frozen strawberries, frozen peaches, coconut milk, vanilla and honey in a blender.
- Puree until very smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and enjoy while frozen!
The delicious flavor of the fruit pairs perfectly with the rich, creamy and tropical taste of the coconut milk and will make a smoothie that you will go crazy for! As you can see, there is no added processed sugar, no artificial flavors or “fake” ingredients – just pure goodness!
Healthy Smoothie Recipes
Keeping the ingredients basic is part of what makes our smoothie so healthy. When you get a smoothie at a fast food restaurant or pre-made in a bottle, there are likely additives, stabilizers, artificial flavors and other unnecessary ingredients added in. Making a smoothie at home is a much more nutritious option! Take a look at why our coconut milk smoothie is so healthy:
Coconut Milk- Coconut milk is full of fiber, iron and beneficial nutrients like vitamins C, E, B1 and B5, just to name a few. It also has lots of healthy fats which are especially good if you are on a keto diet.
Fruit- Fruits have lots of vitamins and minerals that you can’t get anywhere else. They are also naturally sweet which adds to the great flavor of this easy smoothie.
Honey- Honey has lots of natural antioxidants and is an easier sweetener for the body to process, making it a great choice for diabetics.- much better than using granulated sugar or other processed sugar. Honey also has a wonderful flavor that compliments the flavor of the coconut and fruit in the smoothie. If you want your coconut smoothie to be vegan, simply omit the honey or replace it with maple syrup.
As you can see, this smoothie is a powerhouse of nutrients and a perfect way to begin your day. A big cup of this easy coconut smoothie and you will be smiling and feeling great the rest of the day!
Coconut Milk Vs Coconut Water
Coconut milk and coconut water are very different. Coconut milk is thick and rich, it is also full of healthy fats. Coconut water, on the other hand, is much thinner, lower in calories and has no fat at all. Both have a great coconut taste but we love the creaminess that canned coconut milk adds to our smoothie recipe. If you want a lower calorie, flavorful coconut water smoothie, use the same quantity of coconut water as coconut milk and you will have great, tasty results!
Unsweetened coconut milk that you find in the dairy section of the grocery store is also very different than canned coconut milk. It is also much less flavorful and doesn’t have that great, rich coconut taste that you can get from canned coconut milk. You can use unsweetened coconut milk in this smoothie recipe but you may want to add a splash of coconut extract to boost that coconut taste.
Can You Freeze Coconut Milk?
If you have an extra cup or two of coconut milk, you can definitely store it in the freezer. Place the coconut milk in an airtight container and store it for up to one month. When you take the milk out of the freezer, it will “break” as it thaws which means the liquids will separate from the fats. To fix this, simply blend it or whip it back together and then use in any recipe as directed!
Frozen milk actually works well in smoothie recipes and, when using the frozen milk, you can cut back on the ice in the recipe. This will keep that frozen, slushy texture of the smoothie but enhance the flavor. This is an easy way to make our recipe even better!
